Purpose
BudS@UCSC is a new student organization at the University of California, Santa Cruz. It was set on February 7, 2000. Our goals are to promote Buddhism on the school and Santa Cruz County, and to build a Buddhist Community on the UCSC campus for people who are interested in Buddhism and meditation.
Constitution
We have set an constitution to make our group more effective. It includes rules and officer duties. You can check it by clicking here.
Activities
We would like to have all activities for UCSC people and community. Moreover, all of our activities are free for everyone. So, please feel free to participate with all of our activities.
1. Sitting Meditation
This is an interesting activity for people who would like to study how to meditate and people who have practiced meditation but would like to practice in group. At the beginning of each time, the meditation will be taught by an experienced meditator. After we meditate together, an Buddhist Scholar or Experienced Meditator will give us a talk and let us to ask questions.
Every time we have buddhist information for people who are interested in Buddhist activities. You can get news about Meditation Retreats, Buddhist Classes and Buddhist Events. Also, we have the Buddhist Library and the Media Services for serving people who love reading books, seeing CDs or listening cassette tapes. You can borrow them every time you come to join us. For more information, please check the Buddhist Library and the Media Service.
We have this activity every week during school term. If you would like to join us, please check information from the Buddhist News Homepage.
2. Buddhist Library
This is a service for our members and other people in Santa Cruz County who love reading. Our books are about Buddhist Teaching, Buddhist Philosophy, Meditation, History, Buddhist & the Modern World and other topics. Most of our books are in English but some of them are in German, French, Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese.
You can check books via our web site and borrow them by e-mail or mail. Also, you can borrow from all of our sitting meditation groups. Our service is free for everybody in Santa Cruz County.
You can see more detail from the Buddhist Library.
3. Media Service
We have CDs and cassette tapes for people in Santa Cruz County to borrow. The topics we have and how to borrow are similar to the Buddhist Library service. You can see more detail by clicking here.

5. Buddhist Talks
We have Buddhist Talks on campus every quarter. The topic will be related to Buddhist Teaching, Buddhist Philosophy, Meditation and Buddhism & the Modern World.
6. Meditation Retreats
We will have special retreats for people who would like to practice meditation seriously. We set retreats in some weekends and some breaks.
We may have half-day, day and long retreats in some Buddhist monasteries in Santa Cruz County and other places near this area.
7. Buddhist Tours
We will visit some Buddhist Groups in Santa Cruz County. We may participate some events of those groups or we may set the tours by ourself. If we set them, we may have small meditation or Buddhist practices with the leaders of those groups. Also, we will have chances to listen Buddhist talks from those leaders.
8. Buddhist Studies
We may have some Buddhist Classes for people who would like to study about Buddhist teaching and history. This program will be help audiences understand Buddhism better or/and know how to apply for everyday life.
Expenses
We try to make every program free for everyone who would like enjoy our activities. We try to get all expense from the school. Unfortunately, we set the group after fund rasing. For the year 2000 we can not get any fund from the school this year. We wil try to use expenses as less as we can.
We are trying to make our group be a community of charity. This is one of practices in Buddhism to destroy our selfishness. We may have some donation baskets in some activities for some people who would like to donate money to our group. That money will be use for other free activities in the future. Our donation is not suggestion donation, so please feel free for this.
