Brief history:
 

Established in 1981 by the very Venerable Taungpulu Sayadaw from Burma (Myanmar). Taungpulu Sayadaw one of the most highly spiritual developed monk in twentieth century among Theravada forest tradition.

Dr. Rina Sircar is the co-founder of the Monastery, and founder of the Taungpulu Kaba Aye meditation Center in San Francisco. She is a long time disciple of very venerable Taungpulu Sayadaw. She offers on going meditation and healing workshops at both centers.

TKA is a monastic meditation center in the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains, available for all who wish to learn and practice sincerely Vipassana meditation in a peaceful and natural setting.

Beginners:

Meditation instruction is available and daily interviews with the expert English speaking teacher. We maintain two meditation halls, one in the monastery, and one in peace pagoda. Which is only pagoda in Western Hemisphere and was consecrated in 1983. Comfortable rooms, cabins, and nutritious meals are provided. Suggestion donation for self retreat is $ 30 overnight including food and lodging. Bhante Varasambodhi is always in the monastery.
