Practice:

Vipassana (Insight Meditation) one of the central mediation teachings of the Buddha, practiced and passed on within the Theravadin tradition for over 2,500 years. Vipassana meditation is the simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment observation of the mind/body process through calm and focused awareness.

Teacher are Mary Orr and regular guest teachers.

In the practice of dana/(italics),(generosity), the teacher offers the teachings without charge, and in turn members of the community have the opportunity to make offerings for the teachings and expenses.

Regular Activities:

Thursday evening meditation followed by a Dhamma talk 7 PM, First United Methodist Church, 250 California Street, Santa Cruz

Tuesday noon meditation followed by a Dhamma talk Noon, Santa Cruz Zen Center, 113 School Street, Santa Cruz

Special Activities:

Periodic half day and all day retreats

Beginners classes, study classes, and householder retreats are offered periodically. A family program is being

Beginners:

A beginners' class is offered on the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 at the First United Methodist Church, 250 California Street, Santa Cruz. This is suitable for complete beginners or experienced meditators who want a review. The class is free and is taught by a senior student.
